Team Coaching

The more passionately the executive team models effective leadership, the more effective the entire organization will be.
– John Rex

The Leadership Team’s Effectiveness Leads to Success for the Entire Organization

Chances are, you’re leading an executive team made up of very smart people. Each one of them is trying to do their best, yet somehow the team is falling short of its true potential. Worse yet, this shortfall ripples through the whole organization as everyone takes their behavioral cues from their functional bosses. Collaboration on the team is good, but not great. Some people are more focused on their success than on the success of the team. Communication tends to be siloed. Political maneuvers distract and discourage virtually everyone. Turf battles abound. Business targets are missed.

John’s ability to work with execs and teams and truly get the very best out of them has always impressed me. He has a knack for getting below the surface and really understanding where people are coming from.

It doesn’t have to be this way. The key to a high-performing, synergistic team is transforming the individual personal leadership styles of each member in such a way that they focus on the greater good of the team, not just their functional area of responsibility. This can only be accomplished when all team members clearly understand how their personal leadership styles either strengthen or diminish the collective effectiveness of the team and commit to personal transformation for the benefit of the entire organization because they genuinely believe it’s the right thing to do.

How it Works

John assesses executive teams through both qualitative and quantitative measures. First he takes the time to carefully interview each member of the team to understand where their collective strengths and limitations lie today, as well as to clearly articulate the aspirations that the team has for the future. This provides powerful qualitative data about the team’s dynamics, overall leadership health, and current course and direction.

As a Certified Practitioner of the Leadership Circle assessment instruments, John also utilizes the Leadership Circle Culture Survey to gather quantitative date about the team. The Leadership Culture Survey provides a powerful “MRI” of your leadership culture. Used for your entire organization – or just a leadership team – the Leadership Culture Survey tells you how your people view their current leadership culture, and compares that reality to the optimal culture they desire. The gap between the current culture and desired culture instantly reveals key opportunities for leadership development. The Leadership Culture Survey also measures how your leadership culture compares to that of other organizations.

Co-creating the Future

With both qualitative and quantitative data in hand, John works with you to co-create the future state you and your executive team desire – as well as the path to get there. This is when the important work truly begins. Through a customizable combination of facilitated workshops, fieldwork, and personalized coaching over a twelve-month period, John works shoulder-to-shoulder with you and your team to design the transformation necessary – at the individual and team levels – to create a set of operating and behavioral principles, as well as a definition of organizational culture which is aligned with your business objectives and congruent with the team’s values. Guided by John, you’ll co-create the specific changes the team needs to make to transform their individual and collective leadership behaviors and achieve optimal performance for the executive team and, ultimately, for the entire organization.
